FolkSoc Folk Music Taster Session
19/09/2026

About this event
FolkSoc's Freshers taster session is a great opportunity for musicians to learn more about traditional folk music. It is a casual, low pressure environment that is accessible to musicians of all skill levels. You can look forward to learning a bit more about FolkSoc and what we do, as well as learning some Folk tunes alongside the rest of the group.
All instruments are welcome during the session, whether you would consider them traditional or not. We pride ourselves on being an accessible music society, and as long as you can get your instrument to the room, you're welcome to join us.
We are running 2 workshops during this session, one aimed at tune players (best suited for instruments that typically play the melody: flutes, violins, whistles etc.), and one aimed at rhythm/accompaniment players (best suited for guitarists, percussionists etc.). At the end, the 2 groups will come back together to play tunes as a group, like in a traditional Folk session, the typical environment where Folk is played up and down the country.
