Join us on a Trip to Bournemouth!
Bournemouth is a cosmopolitan, world class destination located on Britain’s south coast in the county of Dorset. It is one of the UK’s most popular seaside resorts, welcoming almost 7 million visitors a year.
When and where:
Please meet our Pre-Sessional Helpers Lai and Chloe at the entrance of Southampton Central train station at 9:30am. There are 2 entrances but we are meeting on the side of Blechynden Terrace (postcode SO15 1AL).
PLEASE NOTE that attendees are expected to purchase their own train tickets online on the http://www.thetrainline.com
Buying a train ticket:
- Here are the instructions for purchasing your train tickets online:
- Visit: Go to www.thetrainline.com.
- Enter your departure station (Southampton Central) and Bournemouth as the destination
- Select travel date 27th July and departure time 9:56AM, with an open return time
- Apply any Railcard discounts if you have a Railcard
- Fill in passenger names and details, review your journey details, proceed to payment, and confirm your purchase
- Receive Tickets: Tickets will be sent via email or available for collection at the station.
We will meet at 09:30 by the main entrance to Southampton Central station (Blechynden Terrace side) and we will take the train together at 9:56. Once we arrive, we will walk around to see some of the key Bournemouth sites and views. After the walking tour you can either stick with SUSU staff to grab lunch and return to Southampton, or you can stay and enjoy the city for a bit longer!
Timing of the day:
- 9:30am meet the team in the Central Station
- 10:44am arrive in Bournemouth
- 11am - 12pm guided tour
- Free time to explore
- 5pm meet at the train station for the train at 5:22pm to back home.
Please note if you want to come back with us, you can find us at the Bournemouth train station in 5pm and take the train back at 5:22pm, but you can also stay longer and find your own way back.

About this event
Join our Pre-Sessional Helpers at Sprinkles Gelato (Above Bar Street) at 7PM for a lovely ice cream, milkshake, or any of the other amazing desserts on offer.
This event is free to attend but you will be expected to purchase your own desserts and/or drinks at the venue. The menu can be found here if you would like to have a look in advance. We hope you will join us for a chat and to indulge in some tasty food!
Once you've booked your free ticket, meet the Helpers at 7PM at Sprinkles on Tuesday 6th August at 7PM and they will welcome you to join the group.

Join us for a lovely walk in Brockenhurst, right in the heart of England's New Forest National Park. It's a great place with lots of woodland, where you can see wild ponies and deer!
This time our Pre-Sessional Helpers and the President of Hillwalking Club (Ben) will be leading a walk around in the Brockenhurst, this is a great chance to get into hillwalking and explore the local area. This area has plenty of woodland and scenery which is a perfect way for you to relax during Pre-Sessional Assessments! All students are welcome to join, so whether you're a PG, UG or Pre-Sessional student, we'd love for you to come along!
The route will be 5-7km, friendly to beginners, and we will walk at a fairly slow pace.
What you need to prepare:
You will need to buy an off-peak day return train ticket to Brockenhurst station which currently costs £9.20, or £4.15 if you have a Railcard. We will be getting the train from Southampton central at 14:24.
- Walking/hiking boots or comfortable trainers with socks. This walk involves some countryside walking, so if you do wear trainers please keep in mind that they will likely get muddy.
- At least 0.5L of water (ideally 1L)
- Snacks (you will be unable to buy food on route)
- A backpack to carry food, water and other items
- A raincoat (just in case)
About the ticket:
This walking is totally free but you need to book the train tickets by yourself.
An off-peak day return train ticket from Southampton Central to Brockenhurst station, which currently costs £9.20, or £4.15 if you have a Railcard (bookable on thetrainline.com). We will be getting the train from Southampton central at 2:24PM but we will meet by the entrance at 2PM so we can meet up with the group and get to the platform. You may also need extra time to buy tickets if you don’t buy them in advance.
Time and place:
The pre-sessional helpers will meet you at the entrance to Southampton Central Station on Saturday 10th August (the north side, Blechynden Terrace, SO15 1GW) at 2PM. Please arrive on time we will walk to platform together.
