About this event

This event takes place at Building 34 at Rooms 3011 and 3019

The world went dark. That was about 14 weeks ago. Power went out and all mobiles and other battery devices died, and modern cars simply came to a standstill. Then the weather shifted. The wind picked up, the temperature started to drop, and a seemingly endless storm rolled in. The water stopped running, and food began to run out. People fought over supplies, fights turned to riots, and poor communication from the government caused more panic, overwhelming police and military forces. The weather got worse. The coastline began to flood, relentless winds ripped off roofs and the temperature dropped below zero. Illness started to spread in dense urban areas, and snow and ice began collecting in the streets. Britain has fallen. Now, the only thing that’s left, is the Aftermath.

Aftermath is a megagame, consisting of a large number of players, around 30-50, in a near-post-apocalyptic future of the UK. Play as a member of one of the few groups that survived the storm, with their own groups to look after and their own separate agendas, part of the Command Centres set up by the government in the case of emergency, utilising what’s left of civil, police, and military resources in an attempt to reestablish society and civilisation, or as the media, either the BBC radio, controlled by the government, or a pirate radio station who tells the people the truth of the world.

Players will be placed into teams and given an OS map of Southern England to plot and plan schemes for their group to perform, whilst managing the resources of their groups by scavenging the country and achieving certain goals relevant to their group. The government, split into Silver Command Centres, which are themselves regulated by a Gold Command Centre, play similarly, but have a single united goal, to rebuild the pillars of civilisation and regain authority over the isolated survivor groups. The press provides commentary on the game, which is broadcast to all groups across the game and may affect the actions of some of them.

Gameplay is mainly through roleplay as there are very few mechanical rules, creating interesting narratives between groups. Will you negotiate peace or declare war with other survivor groups? Go along with the government’s plans, secretly subvert them, or rally groups against them? Will the government succeed in rebuilding society, perhaps resorting to more unsavoury methods? The sky’s the limit!

The megagame will take place at Building 34 at Rooms 3011 and 3019, between 10am-6pm on the 27th of April, with a one-hour break at 1pm for lunch. Thanks for reading through this, and I hope to see you there!
